The AstraZeneca blood clot saga continues to cause issues in Europe but the UK vaccine roll-out continues to impress and is now past 32 million people having their first jab and over 8 million having their second with walk-in possible now, I should get my 2nd jab this weekend. See here for data https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus and here for BBC news stats https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55274833
The positive news continues in the UK with lockdown easing and a start to return to some normality of life and economy with holidays abroad being suggested by the Transport Secretary last week https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56682226
17th May is supposed to be the date when holidays abroad are allowed again for UK customers but this has not been confirmed yet https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-52646738
Scandinavia is not doing quite as well, and Denmark has officially dropped the AstraZeneca vaccine which has obviously slowed down their vaccine process. Denmark, Norway and Sweden are all on about 17% of their population vaccinated.
USA continues to be big news for the George Floyd trial and now also the Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo shootings. The only good news is that USA is #4 on the vaccination charts with 40% of the population vaccinated. Australia and New Zealand are not doing very well on vaccinations, possibly due to such a low number of infections but Fiji is on 3%, NZ is on 2% and Australia is under 1% of population vaccinated. This will not help with opening borders this year.
This is a shame and is starting to affect enquiries and bookings as customers lose confidence in the likelihood of being able to visit Australia/NZ this year or even early in 2022. Demand for holidays is exceptionally high but confidence is still low. There is a noticeably clear shift towards ‘healthy’ holidays involving outdoors, health resorts/areas and more sparsely populated areas. Customers are also looking for companies and locations which show a greater consciousness for the environment and sustainability. This is the area that all companies should focus on, get the information about your environmental/sustainability credentials or news out there as much as possible.
I hope you are all well and keeping safe, I am looking forward to jab #2.
